I will be interested to see how a bare bulb (without my ceiling reflector fitting) lights up a room – certainly no direct illumination of the ceiling behind this bulb. This heat-sinked bulb is not unattractive, & versions (of down-lights?) with differing beam angles would appear a cost effective option to the excellent [1,000 lm? ] CREE ceiling fitting (mentioned on the other thread) Affordable High Powered Solar Flood Lights at over $200. These bulbs have their output limited to 180 degrees. In the other thread the Philips has 300 quoted, with a 12W [SAMSUNG] quoting some 270 degrees. In practice their higher light (lumen) output might be spread more widely – reducing illumination (lux) levels around their spread of lighting.
